Оптические модули, соответствующие стандартам SFP (Small Form-factor Pluggable), представляют собой устройства, преобразующие электрические сигналы из электрических в оптические и из оптических в электрические.

Используемый преобразователь носителя с заменой модуля SFP очень полезен для универсальности np. например, при настройке сети вместо изменения всей установки или добавления новых медиаконвертеров достаточно применить новый модуль SFP.

Модули работают с большинством коммутаторов и маршрутизаторов со слотом SFP.
