Safe installation: Ventilation and air conditioning

⚠️ Important

  • 230 V can cause serious electric shock. Have a qualified electrician carry out fixed electrical connections and wiring changes.
  • Switching off through an app or remote does not isolate power. A fan may start automatically following a humidity sensor signal or schedule.
  • Only an appropriately qualified specialist may service split-system refrigerant pipes and circuits. Before use, read the manufacturer's instructions and safety warnings in Latvian.

What to know before buying

Select ventilation for the room's needs, airflow and duct resistance; select air conditioning for the required cooling capacity. Cooling capacity is different from electrical consumption. Check supply voltage, maximum current in A, electrical input in W and starting current. Single-phase devices usually need a neutral conductor N; the need for protective earth PE depends on the device's protection class.

An electrician determines the need and specifications for a dedicated circuit, cable size, circuit breaker and residual-current protection (RCD). For inverter equipment, the RCD type must meet manufacturer requirements. A smart relay's resistive-load rating does not establish suitability for a motor or compressor; speed adjustment requires compatible controls. Check distribution-board space, Wi-Fi coverage, duct diameter, condensate drainage, maintenance access and, in bathrooms, permitted positioning and IP protection.

What the electrician does

  1. Isolates all relevant circuits, prevents accidental reconnection and verifies absence of voltage with suitable test equipment.
  2. Checks existing wiring, conductors and protection; ensures necessary arrangements meet manufacturer instructions and applicable Latvian requirements.
  3. Checks the connection location, moisture protection and provision for safe power isolation during maintenance.
  4. Connects power and control circuits according to the diagram. For a timer fan, checks whether permanent power and a separate control signal are required.
  5. Secures cables and connections, checks protective earth where required and performs electrical safety checks.
  6. With the installer, checks operation, airflow direction, condensate drainage and automation; shows the user where to isolate power safely.

What you can do yourself

After installation, add the device to its app and supported network. Set temperature, humidity thresholds and schedules. Preserve the manufacturer's restart delay when controlling a compressor. Test routines and behaviour after network loss. Clean filters only as instructed, with power safely isolated; do not open electrical connection compartments.

Common mistakes

  • Controlling a motor with a lighting dimmer.
  • Frequently switching compressor power through a smart relay.
  • Omitting a timer fan's required permanent supply.
  • Blocking an air inlet or choosing undersized ducting.
  • Installing condensate drainage without the required fall or specified pump.

When to disconnect power immediately

If you notice burning smells, smoke, sparks, hot connections, water reaching electrical parts or repeated protective-device trips, safely isolate the circuit at the distribution board. Do not touch wet equipment or reconnect it before a specialist checks it.
