KNX is an open international standard (ISO/IEC 14543-3, EN 50090) — decentralized, with every device on the bus holding its own address and logic.

Plan your topology
Split the building into lines and areas, connected via line couplers — a structured topology lets the system grow without a redesign from scratch.

Pull the bus cable
The green two-wire bus cable (e.g. YCYM 2x2x0.8) is separate from the 230V wiring and runs at ~29V DC — pulling it yourself is realistic.

Learn ETS on a demo
The free ETS demo lets you set up group addresses between sensors and actuators on a small project — the full license is paid and needed for bigger jobs.

The panel stays an electrician's job
Actuators and power supplies usually sit in the same enclosure as 230V circuits — work there requires a licensed electrician and an isolated supply.
The bus voltage is safe

Devices are configured with the manufacturer-independent ETS tool — the full version is paid, the demo is free but limited in project size.
Interoperability is standard
