This OPAL smoke detector uses an optical (photoelectric) sensing element to detect smoke, without relying on radioactive materials. It is powered by a 9V battery and includes a test button to check both the battery and the sensor function. A flashing indicator light shows normal operation, and a periodic beep warns when the battery is low.
